Highlight
Injury poses a major threat to children’s health and well being in the modern society of Hong Kong. Various studies conducted between 1996 to now by CIPRA suggest that injury was the leading cause of death among children age one to fourteen in Hong Kong. With reference to different studies by various countries, they all showed that injury is preventable through the effort of multi-disciplinary prevention education, programme evaluation and scientific research. In 2000, CIPRA initiated the Injury Prevention Programme in Schools (IPPS) in Hong Kong. The development of the IPPS was stemmed from the adaptation of the Injury Minimization Programme for Schools in the United Kingdom. The preliminary results of the study have proved the benefits of the IPPS on improving students’ knowledge on injury prevention. Also, students’ attitude and behaviour on safety was modified. The implementation of the IPPS and preliminary evaluation results were released in the press conference.
