Highlight
On 1 November 2003, CIPRA, along with the Department of Community and Family Medicine and Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, organized a satellite workshop on injury prevention prior to the 2003 Family Medicine Symposium, Hong Kong. Titled “Professional and Community Participation in Childhood Injury Prevention”, this workshop brought together health and social care professionals and members of the public to address the ways ahead for the collaboration in promoting childhood safety. Key speakers also came from the Network for Health & Welfare Studies of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Centre for Health Education & Health Promotion of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, both research and programming partners of the CIPRA. The Workshop provided an ideal forum for health care workers, academics, social workers, volunteers and policy makers to exchange views and share experiences in promoting health education and childhood injury prevention in the society. Through an interactive and participative approach, the workshop acted as a catalyst in forging a multi-disciplinary partnership to further the development of injury prevention programmes in our society.

Over 70 injury prevention advocates from various sectors, including subsidized healthcare providers, Department of Health, Social Welfare Department, local child health advocacy attended the workshop. Participants were enthusiastically receptive to our novel approach towards the planning, implementation, and evaluation injury prevention programs.
